A replica of the Mayflower is scheduled to sail home in time for the busy summer tourist season.

The ship has been undergoing renovations at Mystic Seaport in Connecticut since December, part of a multi-year plan. Officials hope to have the ship repaired by 2020 _ the 400th anniversary of the original Mayflower crossing of the Atlantic.

The Westerly Sun reports the ship is scheduled to return to Plymoth Plantation by May 15.

The ship will be able to be viewed in Plymouth over the summer, but repairs will continue there.

The Mayflower II first launched in 1957 and has been maintained regularly. But after nearly 60 years, the ship needed rehabilitation. It's expected to cost about $6 million.  (Associated Press)
