Shortly after Charlie Kirk's assassination on the campus of Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, on September 10, 2025, the Massachusetts Democratic Party issued a statement condemning political violence.

"Regardless of political party or ideologies, we must be able to come together to address our differences peacefully," said the statement from party chairman Steve Kerrigan, which further stated that Massachusetts Democrats were "deeply saddened and horrified" by Kirk's murder.

Ten days later, two Democratic members of the Massachusetts delegation to the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, D.C. voted against a resolution "honoring the life and legacy" of Charlie Kirk.

Fox News reported, "The measure got bipartisan support in a 310 to 58 vote, with both Democrats and Republicans having quickly risen to condemn political violence in the wake of Kirk's assassination."

Fox says, "The vote divided Democrats," as 95 supported the resolution, 58 voted against it, 33 voted "present," and 22 didn't vote at all.

Every Republican member voted in favor of the resolution.

Newsweek reported that Rep. Seth Moulton and Rep. Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts voted against the resolution, as did Rhode Island Democrat Rep. Gabe Amo.

In a statement posted to his website, Moulton justified his vote.

"I cannot vote for a resolution that attempts to rewrite history and turn Charlie Kirk into something he was not," he wrote. Moulton accused Kirk of "mocking the pain of Americans who disagreed with him."

Pressley stated, "Unfortunately, what we are seeing in real time is Donald Trump and Republicans leveraging the senseless death of a public figure to enhance and embolden dangerous ideology, rhetoric, and policy actions."

"This resolution glorified right-wing extremist rhetoric and lionized someone who has promoted shameful, bigoted ideas that have led to deep and lasting harm," Pressley said.

So much for unity.
