Most Common and Gross Pests Found in Massachusetts Homes
Massachusetts is home to more than a thousand species of bugs, many of which are only too happy to share your home.
CatseyePest.com says, "Ants aren't just common house bugs in Massachusetts, they are also the single most common pest in homes across the country."
Ants can be small or large, black, red, or brown, and thrive in warm, moist areas near a food source.

CatseyePest.com says, "Some species are relatively harmless, but others, like the carpenter ant, can create extensive structural damage." So-called pavement ants can "bite or sting" and "access pantry foods – leaving the food unsafe to consume."
More than 200 species of bees, wasps, and hornets call Massachusetts home. Some species are harmless, while others "can damage structures, cause physical pain, and trigger allergic reactions."
Bed bugs, spiders, mosquitoes, and cockroaches are common pests in Massachusetts. In 2019, "Boston ranked among the most bed bug-infested cities in the United States."
But it's not just the bugs that will drive you batty.
Ultra Safe Pest Management.com (USPM) says, "Rats are the most common rodents found in Massachusetts homes, especially during winter." The site says, "Your warm house is a perfect place for them to stay and thrive."
USPM says, "Rats are known to spread diseases and damage your wiring, so it's important to immediately get rid of them as soon as you sport them."
Termites and beetles can cause extensive damage to your home. Both are wood eaters. Termites sometimes go undetected until they have already caused considerable damage.
Bats are also a common nuisance in Massachusetts.
Who could forget the common housefly, often referred to as a rat with wings? Flies are dirty and can spread germs and diseases.
