Massachusetts Rep. Auchincloss' Aide Tied to U.S. Capitol Arrests

An aide for Democrat Massachusetts Congressman Jacob Auchincloss, whose district includes Fall River, has been linked to the latest scandal involving the United States Capitol.

Multiple media organizations, including the Associated Press, report that members of late-night television host Stephen Colbert's staff were arrested in a Longworth House Office Building, a Congressional office building, after hours in the area near where the January 6 committee had met earlier.

The group was arrested at about 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 16 by Capitol Police. The Associated Press quoted a Capitol Police statement: "Responding officers observed seven individuals, unescorted and without Congressional ID in a sixth-floor hallway."

According to the statement, "The building was closed to visitors, and these individuals were determined to be part of a group that had been directed by the USCP to leave the building earlier in the day."

Mass Live.com cited reports of Colbert staffers being let into the building by an aide to Auchincloss. Fox News' Chad Pergram reported that the Auchincloss aide "believed the crew had more interviews to complete and let them back in."

CBS, which airs Colbert's program, said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter that "their interviews at the Capitol were authorized and pre-arranged through Congressional aides of the members interviewed."

The investigation is continuing and, according to Capitol Police, could result in additional arrests.

The Sun Chronicle reported that Auchincloss has had no public comment.
