Market Basket is coming to Fall River.

According to the Herald News, owners of Market Basket and the New Harbour Mall met with Mayor Jasiel Correia, outlining plans for a new 85,000 square foot supermarket at the site.

David McLean, the operations manager for Market Basket, hopes to open the new store in June of 2017. They expect to employ 400 full and part time workers. The new Fall River store will be slightly smaller than the one in New Bedford.

A tax increment financing agreement is part of the deal. The developers will meet with the Mayor and Fall River's T-I-F Board next Tuesday to consider the proposal.

Mayor Correia says Market Basket is a huge economic driver. He thinks the project will be a catalyst for development in Fall River's South End.
