This Vintage Cop Car Stole the Show at Marion’s Parade
Last weekend, Marion celebrated Independence Day in true small town fashion with a parade complete with floats, bands, candy tossing, and the star of the show: a restored antique police car.
The impeccably restored vehicle stole the hearts of everyone lining Main Street and Spring Street. The classic 1961 Ford cruiser from 1961 made its grand entrance in the Fourth of July parade, drawing much attention with its polished chrome and vintage lights
Who Owns the Classic Cruiser?
While Dillon Auld's grandfather, Russell Pittsley, drove the vehicle in the parade, the car is actually owned by a man named Mike Murphy. Overall, there were at least four generations of families in attendance.
Parades in Marion are always a joyous mash-up of tradition and community spirit, featuring everything from Morris dancers to mini rubber ducks. This particular outing stood out thanks to the black-and-white antique police cruiser, meticulously restored down to the smallest detail. Spectators marveled at the emblazoned police insignia, the retro spotlight, and even the crisp siren housing on the roof. It was not merely a moving time capsule; it represented public service and patriotic pride in a way newer vehicles simply can’t replicate.
Riding in classic style, the antique cruiser rolled alongside a zombie patrol jeep, festive tractors, and floats honoring veterans and local heroes. The vibe was unmistakably festive: children gleefully scooped up candy, families waved flags and bands played timeless American anthems. The entire event was a testament to Marion’s dedication to honoring history – even in its quirkiest automotive form.

What Made This Parade Different?
What made the antique cop car so memorable wasn’t just its polished exterior; it was the stories it evoked. Whether it had once patrolled local streets or was lovingly sourced from a vintage-vehicle enthusiast, it symbolized a living history lesson, rolling through the heart of Marion. It reminded every onlooker that Fourth of July celebrations are as much about remembering shared pasts as they are about fireworks and barbecues.

As the cruiser cruised down Front Street, it sparked smiles and selfies, pausing just long enough for onlookers to appreciate its craftsmanship. In a parade brimming with creativity – featuring everything from giant rubber ducks to harbormaster floats – it stood as a proud beacon of nostalgia. Its presence emphasized a theme that resonated throughout Marion this July 4: community strengthened by remembrance and joy.
