New Bedford Feast of the Blessed Sacrament Adds Easy Tipping for a Good Cause
If you’re heading to the 109th Feast of the Blessed Sacrament this weekend, there’s something new you’ll notice besides the smell of linguica in the air and the sound of live Portuguese music drifting through Madeira Field.
Paying by Card Just Got Easier at the Feast
For the first time ever, Feast-goers can now pay by credit or debit card at every barraca (food/beverage stand). That means no more waiting in the ATM line to get money out just to jump back into the ticket line if you’re ready to grab a cold drink.

But there’s something even more rewarding than convenience: the tip screen.
Yes, those familiar prompts to leave 10 percent, 15 percent or 20 percent have finally landed at the Feast; and this year, every single tip left via card goes directly to the Club Madeirense S.S. Sacramento Charitable Foundation, which helps fund scholarships and vocational awards for local students.

Where Your Tip Really Goes
This isn't just any fundraiser.
The Feast’s scholarship fund has proudly distributed over $2 million in academic and vocational support over the last 25 years. Each year, up to 30 $1,000 scholarships are awarded to graduating high school students from the Greater New Bedford area.
“We are thrilled and immensely proud to recognize and support students pursuing careers in the trades through our vocational awards. By investing in their education and training, we honor the spirit of perseverance and craftsmanship that has long been a part of our heritage.” -The Feast of the Blessed Sacrament
From future electricians to aspiring engineers, your tip helps empower the next generation, while preserving Madeiran pride and values.
So, Should You Tip?
If you're using your card at the Feast this year, the answer is easy: absolutely.
Not only are you showing appreciation for hardworking volunteers, you’re helping students take the next step toward a brighter future.
So go ahead – raise a glass, tap your card, and hit that tip button. You won’t just be buying a drink; you’ll be supporting the future generation.
