The two murder trials of Karen Read in the 2022 death of her boyfriend, Boston Police Officer John O'Keefe, gained national attention for their complex nature and accusations of police misconduct. Now, the 2021 Lexus LX 570 that Read was driving the night her boyfriend died is going up for auction.
On Friday, January 30, 2026 at 11 a.m., JJManning Auctioneers in Yarmouth Port, MA, will open bidding with proceeds from the sale going to Read herself.
History of the Lexus in the Read Case
Although Read was acquitted of the murder charges during her second trial in June 2025, she was convicted of operating under the influence (OUI). The SUV up for auction soon is the exact one she was operating.

Having been seized by police early in the Read investigation and held in police custody for the years the case was in court, the SUV currently only has about 12,000 miles on it.
It did need to be repaired and detailed, however, with JB Auto in Weymouth doing the work (yes, that includes replacing the infamous broken tail light). Now, JB Auto has authorized JJManning Auctioneers to sell the SUV to the highest bidder just over four years from the January 29, 2022 night at the heart of the case.
Auction Details and Registration Requirements
On Friday, January 30, 2026 at 11 a.m., the Lexus will be sold at a live auction, with no online or remote bids. All bidders will also be required to show valid ID and proof of $20,000 in bank funds just to register for the auction and take part in bidding.

Justin Manning, President of JJManning Auctioneers, told us that interest in this SUV has come from as far as Texas and as close as Canton, MA. That interest is likely caused by more than just the low mileage on the vehicle.
Interest From Potential Buyers
Manning also told us that there are three interested buyers looking to buy the vehicle before the auction takes place on the 30th. "Nothing has come together yet – key word being yet," he said.
No word on who those interested buyers are, but as of now the auction date and time still stand, with the infamous SUV expected to go to the top bidder that day.
