Josh Hamilton is going back to Texas.  The Rangers have acquired the embattled slugger from the Los Angeles Angels for a player to be named later or cash.

Hamilton returns to the place he enjoyed five All-Star seasons and won the American League MVP in 2010.  The 33-year-old suffered a drug and alcohol relapse earlier this year and has been on the disabled list recovering from shoulder surgery.

Hamilton has three years left on the five-year, 125-million-dollar contract he signed before the 2013 season.  The Angels are still paying the bulk of that salary.

In two injury-plagued years with the Halos, Hamilton hit just .255 with 31 home runs.  After drugs and alcohol derailed his career early on, Hamilton hit .305 with 142 home runs with the Rangers from 2008 to 2012.
