Long before there was CNN or The FOX News Channel, before cable TV was a household fixture and long before you could get instant information updates on your cellphone, there was Jim Phillips. Jim Phillips was a fixture on the radio dial and on  television for 45 years.

Jim Phillips was doing what he does before DVD's, HD, CD's and MP3's. So, how does Jim Phillips remain relevant after all of these years? He remains true to his core beliefs. Jim reports the facts in a timely and accurate manner, without all of the hype and glitz and glamour and speculation that has become the media. Jim could have taken his act on the road and would have done well, he certainly has the talent.  But Jim Phillips never saw any of this as being about him or about how high up the ladder he could climb.

Jim established a bond with generations of listeners and viewers who trusted him to be fair and honest and not tilt the news to fit his particular point of view. Just the facts.  "What do we know?", Jim often asked when figuring out a story. Jim saw the good in his community and told us about it. He asked the tough questions when he had to and told us we could stay in bed a little longer because school had been cancelled due to snow. Why does it matter that Jim is retiring?

Because in a world where the news reporters have become newsmakers and celebrities Jim's breed is a dying breed that will be sorely missed. I've know Jim Phillips for most of the last 45 years.  He is a colleague, a teacher, a mentor but most importantly Jim is a friend.

Good luck my friend and GO RED SOX!
