The late Jack Peterson, a former news anchor at WBSM, morning show host on WNBH and sports play by play broadcaster for both stations, was honored Tuesday night by the New Bedford High School Gridiron Club.

Peterson was inducted into the club's Hall of Fame as a Special Honoree.

His wife, Lynne Peterson says Jack enjoyed broadcasting high school sports. "He loved watching these kids, he loved watching them go year to year, plus he saw families grow up this way, first one brother than the other brother," said Peterson. "They were so talented and such good kids."

Gridiron Club President Randy Debrosse says Jack was a top notch talent that everyone listened to. "He promoted the high school sports well, and as a kid, that's who you grew up listening to, having your name announced by Jack Peterson. It's an honor to have him inducted into the Hall of Fame," said Debrosse.

Six former football standouts were also inducted during ceremonies at the Century House. They include Chris Bettencourt of the Class of 1995, "Nelo" Ortiz, Class of 1982, Bill Meunier, a graduate in 1985, Mark Bono from 1977, Heath Huston from the Class of 1997 and David Harris a graduate in 1965.
