Massachusetts Radio Community Heartbroken After Unexpected Passing of Billy Teed
I've been with Fun 107 for the past 15 years, and in that time, I've been unfortunate enough to live through multiple deaths. About a month before I began my radio journey, morning show host and beloved member of the community Sharon Fogarty passed away. Although I never met her or knew her, I knew that a lot of people loved her, and she was a force to be reckoned with.
Years later, we lost another good friend of mine by the name of J-Rod. He was a weekend personality, but he had such a kind soul and always smiled when you walked into the room. Keep going down the line, and there was another day I'll never forget.
I was on the air with Michael Rock and Abby when we got the news that longtime radio personality and beloved member of the community J.R. had passed away. That same day, our general manager, Gail Leblanc, also passed away. Fast-forward a little later into my career, and my radio mom, Christine Fox, passed away. Certainly a series of unfortunate events.
The Weekend Just Won't Be the Same
It's an unforgettable moment for me because it was also the same day my son was born. So you can only imagine the mixed emotions running through my mind.

Like I mentioned, I began here at Fun 107 15 years ago. I was at the bottom of the totem pole as a street teamer, where I would go around to different remote broadcasts, set them up, make them look good, have fun, be interactive with the public, and most importantly, take care of the on-air DJ personalities.

When I was done for the day and drove the Fun 107 van back to the studio, there was always a weekend on-air personality in the studio that I loved to connect with, have fun with and had befriended. Among them was Billy Teed.
What's There to Say About Billy Teed?
Well, there are two different types of people in this world. There are those who just show up to work looking for a paycheck, and then there are those who genuinely love what they do and show up for the passion. For Billy Teed, his passion was radio, and he was good at it. He was always trying to better himself, always trying to keep the show tight and always trying to entertain.

Even when Billy and I would go out and about, maybe grab a beer somewhere, he would always have Fun 107 on in the car. "Hang on a minute," he'd say, reaching for the knob and turning it up so he could make sure the production work sounded as good as it possibly could. He would take mental notes on his own breaks, a commercial or a transition into a song. He always paid close attention. I admired that.
Sadly, Teed passed away on Monday, August 10, following a brief illness.

The Unofficial Mayor of Cape Cod
While he was a very familiar voice here on the SouthCoast, he also made waves down on Cape Cod, where he was well known. I used to always joke and call him the unofficial mayor of Cape Cod. Everybody knew him, and he knew everybody. I'll admit, his passing was unexpected and quite shocking, at least for me.

These days, the weekends look a little different and there's a different energy in the studio. While we're still doing our job, still working and still delivering the local news and the fun antics to the good people of the SouthCoast, there will forever be missing puzzle pieces for those who have passed away who I have been fortunate enough to share a mic with.
Billy was one of those people.
Cherished Memories Behind the Studio Microphone
The stories I have about Billy and the time we spent together are endless. Some of them I can't even talk about, but others were pretty mild-mannered. For example, he always had a knack for knowing if a song was going to be big. One day, following a remote broadcast, we were hanging out in the studio together, just chit-chatting and being a couple of guys. At the time, Nicki Minaj and David Guetta had released a brand new song called "Turn Me On," and it was about to become a smash hit. He knew it, too.
It was just the two of us in the building, and man, did we crank the speakers. We had ourselves a little dance party in the studio. It was great. The vibes were electric.

Then there were the holiday parties here at Fun 107, and Billy and I would maybe grab a a little pre-gaming beer beforehand. I'll never forget the day we double-dated. We both had a date to the Fun 107 holiday party, so we decided to meet up at a Honey Dew here in Fairhaven. I had promised the girl I had set him up with that although he may be a little quirky, he was a good guy. In fact, he was genuine.
Always Hard at Work
While working here in the office, Billy would often ask Michael Rock for airchecks so he could better himself in his career. I thought that was pretty admirable. It's one thing to do your job, but to ask someone who's been doing it a lot longer than you to review your work? I think that speaks volumes. Billy eventually left Fun 107 and headed back to the Cape, where he worked for Easy 99.1 and then eventually Y101, where he could be heard on "Frank Plays It All."
A Lifetime That Ended Too Soon
What breaks my heart is that Billy left behind a daughter, a caring family and a wife to whom he was only married to for a couple of years. Their vows promised a lifetime, and unfortunately, that was cut way too short.

Here in the radio industry, we are more than just co-workers. We become family. A tight-knit family. There's nothing stronger than the bond that we have here in radio, especially here at Fun 107. So to Billy, all I have to say is I hope you're up there bothering J.R. for airchecks to make sure that your work will continually get better and better and improve. Also, while you're at it, please give Christine a big hug for me. I miss her terribly.
