Its a busy time of the year for the Department of Public Infrastructure in New Bedford.

Commissioner Ron Labelle tells WBSM News, a number of intersection improvement projects are beginning, including one at the bottom of Union Street Downtown....

The biggest project is happening on Route Six at Route 140 and Brownell Avenue.

The improvements include new traffic signals, creation of more turn lanes, repaving and landscaping. The intersection is considered the 15th most dangerous intersection in the state.

Labelle says the project will be done in phases, and take about three years to complete.
