DARTMOUTH — There were some social media reports circulating on Wednesday that there was a rabid coyote in the Reed Road area.

Dartmouth Police Detective Kyle J. Costa has informed us that the animal was not rabid, but severly injured. Costa speculated that the coyote may have been struck by a car.

The detective reported that the animal was dispatched (shot) by a licensed neighbor, and then taken away by an Animal Control officer. No shots were fired by the Dartmouth Police Department.
