There's a lot of talk about how the plastic ban will expand to plastic straws in Massachusetts. I cannot imagine a Mass native getting their Dunkin without a plastic straw for their iced coffee. However, we're seeing a real need for lifestyle changes to preserve or planet for as long as possible. Either we make the changes necessary or pay the price.

We talked about the use of stainless steel straws on-air this week. A listener called to tell us that she bought one on a whim and loves it, and she feels really good about using it.

I did find them relatively cheap on Amazon. The set of six stainless steel straws from Acerich is meant for 30 oz and 20 oz Tumblers and comes with a cleaning brush. It honestly looks like a wicked tiny version of the brush/sponge you'd use to clean baby bottles. With 4.5 stars out of 5 and nearly 300 ratings, I guess this is a popular item. For only $7 plus tax, they are worth a shot.

If one of your New Year's resolutions was to be kinder to Mother Earth but you have no idea where to start, I can tell you that this is somewhat easy and just involves putting it into practice every day. Since it comes with six, leave one at home, one in your car, one at work, and maybe one in a gym bag or gym locker. See how often you end up needing one and use it whenever you can.
