" How does it feel to be without a home...like a complete unknown...like a rolling stone"....Bob Dylan. New Bedford was the home of a homeless awareness event called One Homeless Night ... Is Too Many.

My partner, Chris Arsenault, aka Gazelle of FUN107, and I spent a bone chilling evening sleeping outside inside a cardboard box to help bring attention to a problem the people of New Bedford face.

Rise Up For Homes and Catholic Family Services brought together policy makers and community leaders to raise money and dialogue to help get us to take action for mothers and their children who've been evicted from cockroach and rat filled tenements with no where to live. If they have a car, then that becomes the bedroom for the kids who still go to school everyday. Or, the woman who lost her apartment when the boyfriend took up with someone else, leaving her and her kids without income. Everyone's story is unique.

"Chrissy" not only lost her family but all the possessions she ever had, from childhood photos to furniture. Since she couldn't find shelter and services, she placed her children with different friends and distant relatives. She cries everyday during this depressing period in her life. How would you feel if this happened to you?

In the near future, I'll be sharing information that will be eye opening and helpful in taking this problem to the next level. In the meanwhile, you are responsible for the energy you spread. If you have the power to help someone, do it. I've come to realize that the opposite of love isn't hate. It's indifference. Anyone who has struggled with this problem knows how extremely expensive it is to be homeless!
