Fresh, Hot and Homemade: Grammie’s Malasadas Food Truck Hits the SouthCoast
They're a Portuguese staple: the hot, fried pastries covered in sugar that sticks to your mouth as you bite into the fresh, fluffy dough.
We're talking, of course, about malasadas, and if you're already missing this Feast favorite, you're in luck.

Grammie's Homemade Malasadas is serving up its recipe for the mouthwatering confections out of its food truck.
Mouthwatering Malasadas
Owning a mobile kitchen was never the goal, but the opportunity, like their pastries, was too sweet to pass up.
Erika Madden, the owner of the Star Drive-In in East Taunton, asked to collaborate with Kim Dufour, the chef behind these amazing malasadas.
"She had a trailer that she had used during COVID and she wanted to do something with it," Dufour said.

A Family Affair
Dufour is no stranger to the culinary world. She's worked in restaurants for decades.
This endeavor, however, is a family affair. Her husband, Jonas Cordeiro, and daughter, Megan Fournier, help make it all possible.
From running the register to frying the dough and driving the truck, this family does it all.
"We wanted to do one product and see if we could make it the best possible," Dufour said. "We wanted to do them hot, made to order, as if you're at the Feast, because everybody goes to the Feast and they wait in line for hours for those hot, homemade malasadas."
A Family Recipe Passed Down
The recipe is authentic, passed down from Dufour's mother-in-law. It's so good, people are coming from all over to get their hands on one of the delicious malasadas.
"We've had people come out of Connecticut and order 20," Dufour said. With affordable pricing – a small is $3 and a large is $6 – it's no wonder they're ordered by the dozen.

"We've had so many people tell us, oh my God, it brings me back to my grandfather's kitchen or my mom's kitchen. It just warms my heart to know that we can bring that back to them, those memories," Dufour said.
If reading this has made you hungry, you're not alone. I'm craving a fresh, hot malasada while typing this very sentence.
