The average price of a gallon of gasoline in Massachusetts has dropped below $2 for the first time in almost seven years.

AAA Northeast said Monday that self-serve, regular dropped 2 cents per gallon in the past week to an average of $1.98, its lowest level since April 2009.

The current price is a dime lower than a month ago, 48 cents lower than a year ago, and a penny below the national average.

AAA found self-serve, regular selling for as low as $1.83 and as high as $2.39 per gallon. (Associate Press)
