The Mass. Gaming Commission is meeting Thursday, and is expected to vote on whether to allow commercial developers to bid on the casino license for Southeastern Massachusetts. 

The State's casino bill calls for a Native American tribe to have first preference in bringing a casino to this region. 

The Mashpee Wampanoag tribe has announced plans for a Taunton casino off Route 24, but federal officials have yet to give the project their blessing....

New Bedford City Councilor David Alves, who has followed the casino issue closely.

Based on what he's seen and heard at earlier meetings, Alves predicts the Commission will vote to open up the process to commercial developers.
