Freetown Hit With Massive Brushfire

FREETOWN — A brush fire sparked in the Freetown/Fall River State Forest on Monday afternoon, reaching around seven acres of the forest and leading to requests for mutual aid from several local fire departments.

Freetown Fire Department officials said crews were alerted by the Fall River Fire Tower at 3:42 p.m. to a developing fire spanning around seven acres.

Firefighters arrived at the scene near Innovation Way around ten minutes later.

They began combatting the blaze with help from Berkley, Lakeville, and Rochester fire departments along with state officials.

No bystanders were involved and no injuries were reported in the blaze.

Local police were also called to assist.

Over the next two to three hours, firefighters worked to keep the flames from spreading.

The fire was successfully extinguished at around 7:00 p.m.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
