Gillette Stadium’s Lighthouse: Why It’s Unlike Any Other
Have you ever heard of ships discovered on mountaintops or fossil remains of sea creatures found in deep desert sands and wondered how the heck did they get there?
Visitors to Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts, home of the New England Patriots, may have a similar reaction after spying what the team says is the "tallest lighthouse in America," located in the north end zone.
Why a Lighthouse at Gillette Stadium?
The team's website says, "The Gillette Stadium Lighthouse was reimagined as part of our north end zone expansion project, bringing an iconic experiential feature to the stadium that fans of all ages can experience and enjoy."
The Patriots say, "The top of the structure stands 22 stories above the playing field and is the tallest 'lighthouse' in the United States!"
Record-Breaking Height and Design
Gillette Stadium is approximately 271 feet above sea level, and while the lighthouse offers views of the Boston and Providence skylines, there is not a drop of ocean water within sight. Most lighthouses were located on or near the ocean and used as aids to navigation back in the day.
Record-Breaking Height and Design
The Gillette Stadium Lighthouse features a 360-degree observation deck known as the Lookout, providing "spectacular panoramic views."
Ticket Info and Visiting Hours
The Gillette Stadium Lighthouse is open seven days a week, year-round, for tours, unless closed for ticketed or private events. Visitors should check the calendar on the Gillette Stadium Lighthouse website for hours and possible closures.
Admission is $5 for adults, and children 10 and under are free. Tickets must be purchased the day of your visit only and can be obtained at the Lighthouse. No advance sales are permitted.
Your visit to the Gillette Stadium Lighthouse includes souvenir digital photos.
