Firearm-Related Incident at Fairhaven Walmart
UPDATE: A 22-year-old New Bedford man has been arrested in connection to a fight at Walmart. More details are available in a new story on the incident.
FAIRHAVEN — A firearm-related incident at Fairhaven's Walmart took place late Tuesday night, but it is currently unclear exactly what happened.
The Bristol County Sheriff's Office confirmed that two K-9 units responded to the Walmart at 11:29 p.m. Tuesday at the request of Fairhaven police to search for a discarded weapon.
Unconfirmed scanner reports indicate the store was placed on lockdown after an apparent shots fired incident involving a male suspect, who fled on foot.
Fairhaven police did not immediately confirm the reports, but said the department will release more information in the near future.
BCSO spokesman Jonathan Darling stated K-9 Jerry and his partner, Officer Scott Robbins, found a gun magazine outside the building.
According to Darling, the K-9 units left the scene at 12:43 a.m. but did not find or apprehend a suspect.
The Fairhaven Walmart is located at 42 Fairhaven Commons Way.
According to the company website, it closes at 11 p.m. every night.
