A roaring fire destroyed a cabin at 30 Howland Road in Lakeville.

Lakeville firefighters were called to the scene just before 6 pm Friday.

According to a post on the Fire Department Facebook page, the cabin was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.

Crews had to shuttle water to the scene, but the department says the fire was knocked down fairly quickly.

Firefighters were told initially there might be someone inside the building, but officials were able to locate the two occupants a short time later.

The Red Cross is assisting them with housing. No one was hurt but a dog and two cats perished in the flames.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. A half dozen communities supplied mutual aid.
