Feds Increasing Oversight At Pilgram Nuclear Power Station
Federal inspectors say they're increasing their oversight of the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station in Massachusetts.
Officials from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission say the decision to ramp up inspections at the Plymouth plant stems from a storm-related shutdown at the Entergy-owned plant in January and involves the facility's safety relief valves.
The agency said Wednesday the inspections will examine the company's own evaluation of the problem and will study the company's review of whether the issue could have extended to other equipment or systems.
The inspection will also review any corrective actions carried out by plant owners.
A spokesman for New Orleans-based Entergy Corp. says it will consider what actions it needs to take to return Pilgrim to normal NRC oversight and is confident that Pilgrim is a safely operated plant. (Associated Press)
