Farm Antibiotics May Be Linked To Food Allergies
A new study suggests people may be allergic to antibiotics used on farms.
The study, published in the "Annals of Allegry, Asthma, and Immunology," profiles the case of a ten-year-old girl who had a severe reaction to eating a blueberry pie. Researchers determined the problem was a blueberry treated with an antibiotic used to keep pests away from fruits and vegetables.
They suggest people at risk for life-threatening allergic reaction carry epinephrine and know how to use it in an emergency situation.
