Fall River Schools Superintendent Matthew Malone Offers Resignation
Fall River Superintendent of Schools Dr. Matthew Malone has announced he is resigning.
Malone sent a letter of resignation to the Fall River School Committee on Monday, May 31, stating his intention to exit on November 1st, 2021.
In his letter, Malone cited the progress Fall River Public Schools have made under his leadership, but said "it would be best for the district, as a whole, that I pass the baton of leadership."
The school committee passed a vote of no confidence in Malone in February, and called for his resignation after allegations he harassed office staff and used demeaning language. At the time, Malone said he had no intention of resigning.

In his resignation letter, Malone said he was announcing it now to provide the school committee “with the professionally appropriate notice for succession and transition planning,” vowing to work right up until his last day.

“I have enjoyed Fall River immensely and will forever treasure the people I was able to work with and the students whom I was able to serve,” Malone wrote.
