FALL RIVER (WBSM) — One SouthCoast city is already getting ahead of the predicted storm that is blowing in Sunday into Monday, which could leave the region with some significant snow accumulation.

The City of Fall River has announced a parking ban that will begin Sunday afternoon due to the predicted “plowable snow,” according to a release.

As of Friday afternoon, neither New Bedford nor Taunton had announced parking bans. On Saturday morning, the Town of Dartmouth announced its ban would be in place from 6 p.m. on Sunday, February 22 through 11 p.m. on Monday, February 23.

When Does the Fall River Parking Ban Begin?

Fall River’s parking ban will go into effect at 1 p.m. on Sunday, February 22 and remain in place until further notice. “Vehicles in violation will be tagged and towed prior to the start of the snowfall and throughout the storm if they are impeding public safety or snow removal operations,” according to the release.

While snowfall predictions have not quite been finalized as the storm’s track has not yet been fully determined, WPRI 12 Meteorologist T.J. Del Santo thinks the SouthCoast has the highest probability of receiving six or more inches of snow from this storm.

Some outlets are predicting it could be as high as 10 to 15 inches in our area.

Where Can You Park During the Ban?

Parking is available at the following lots until the ban is lifted:

  • Flint Municipal Parking Lot on Cash Street
  • Municipal Parking Lot on Columbia Street (corner of Hunter Street)
  • Morton Middle School Parking Lot on Hood Street
  • Maplewood Park Parking Lot (off Stafford Road)
  • DCR Parking Lot at Lafayette Park

Anyone parking in a school lot must move their vehicle out of the school lot by 5 p.m. the night before school resumes.
