Fall River Police Investigating First Murder of 2022
FALL RIVER — Fall River police are investigating a fatal stabbing Sunday night that the Bristol County District Attorney's Office described as the city's first homicide of the year.
According to the D.A.'s office, the murder took place in front of Latino's Cafe on County Street in Fall River on Sunday night.
City police responded to a report of a stabbing victim, later identified as 58-year-old Fall River man Antonio Santos, outside the bar just before 9:15 p.m. Sunday.
First responders arrived to find Santos suffering from apparent stab wounds.
He was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital, where he died during surgery just before midnight.
According to the D.A.'s office, there is a suspect in the case, although the person's name was not disclosed.
A preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect and the victim knew each other, and the suspect fled east on County Street after the stabbing.
Homicide Unit prosecutors and Fall River and state police detectives are actively investigating the murder.
No further details have been provided.
The D.A.'s office asked anyone with any information on the case to contact authorities or submit an anonymous tip.
