Outdoor dining continues during the pandemic, even with the advent of cold weather.

With that in mind, the City of Fall River is offering the use of outdoor space heaters, free of charge, to operating restaurants on a first-come, first-served basis.

Fall River procured a grant through the Massachusetts Shared Streets and Spaces Grant program. The funding created an outdoor dining patio at Thyme Blossom on Purchase Street and helped the city purchase 30 space heaters for use in outdoor dining, according to a media release from the office of Mayor Paul Coogan.

National shortages and back orders for such heaters delayed their arrival, but they are now in the city’s possession, assembled and ready to be distributed, Coogan's office said. Restaurants in the city that have outdoor dining capabilities are invited to contact the city to reserve a seasonal space heater rental.

To reserve heaters, restaurants should contact Director of Facilities Maintenance Chris Gallagher at 508-922-6715 or 508-324-2226.
