Fall River Chinese Restaurant Puts a Bold Spin on Fish and Chips
As Lent continues its 40-day, 40-night journey, many observers find themselves hitting a creative wall when it comes to meatless Fridays.
If you’re tired of the same old fish and chips routine, you’re not alone. I’m right there with you.
That’s why I was pleasantly surprised to stumble upon an unexpected twist on this Lenten staple, right here in Fall River. It’s bold, it’s flavorful and it’s coming out of a place you might not expect: a Chinese restaurant.

Mr. Chen’s, located on Rhode Island Avenue, is serving up a game-changer in the form of General Tso Fish n’ Chips. Yes, you read that right: crispy fried fish drizzled in that sweet and spicy General Tso sauce we all know and love.
Owner Dominic Chen, the mastermind behind the dish, introduced it shortly after Ash Wednesday and it’s already turning heads.
While Chen prefers using thinner batter on the fish to let the sauce shine, I personally suggested a thicker batter, similar to what he uses on his chicken fingers, for an even heartier fusion.
But hey, why fix what clearly isn’t broken?
The dish goes for $14.95 and comes with a generous side of fries. Here’s a pro tip: ask for extra General Tso sauce on the side. Trust me, dipping your fries in it is a total game-changer.
So if your Lenten menu needs a little shake-up, Mr. Chen’s might just be your new go-to the next time you're craving Chinese food on a Friday. It's the best of both worlds.
