FALL RIVER — The Fall River mother accused of assaulting her three-month-old daughter has been released.

ABC6 is reporting that while 21-year-old Thaysa Gagne was released Monday, she cannot have contact with her daughter until the case is resolved.

Gagne was arrested after investigators were called to Hasbro Children's Hospital on June 4 for a report of a possible assault on an infant. According to ABC6, doctors told police the young girl had terrible trauma to her private parts, with one doctor saying it was the worst she had seen in 20 years.

According to Gagne's statement to Fall River Police, she was trying to clean up some type of heat rash on the baby and accidentally cut her while trying to clean out the blood.

Gagne is due back in court for a probable cause hearing on August 13, while the child remains in DCF custody.
