A Fall River man will serve five to seven years in state prison following his conviction on firearm charges.

Gregg Miliote, Director of Communications for the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, announced on Wednesday that 27-year-old Kyron Simmons was convicted on one count of carrying an illegal firearm, subsequent offense, and one charge of carrying a loaded firearm.

Miliote says that Simmons robbed and punched a man behind Red's Quick Zone in Fall River on October 30, 2014 taking the victim's cell phone, money, and marijuana.

Simmons was later found at Saint Anne's Hospital where he gave officers a false name before before trying to flee.

A loaded .22 silver hand gun was found in his pocket and he was also in possession of the victim's cell phone.

Upon his release Simmons must serve two years of supervised probation.

Simmons has two previous firearm convictions, one in Fall River District Court in 2010 for possession of a firearm and one in Bristol Superior Court in 2012 for carrying an illegal firearm.
