Fall River Man Connected to Shooting Homicide Arrested in Georgia
FALL RIVER (WBSM) — A Fall River man indicted for the shooting homicide of Joshua Medeiros was apprehended yesterday afternoon in DeKalb County, Georgia.
Kevin Barton, 32, was indicted by a Bristol County Grand Jury on May 17 in connection to the February 9 shooting of Medeiros near the intersection of Nashua and Blackstone streets.
According to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, the indictment was sealed at the time because the defendant was not in custody.
Barton is charged with murder, carrying an illegal firearm, carrying a loaded illegal firearm, larceny and possession of a large-capacity firearm.
Law enforcement officials have been actively seeking to locate and apprehend Barton for the past six weeks.
Barton was non-fatally shot by law enforcement during his arrest in Georgia. He is currently in stable condition at a Georgia Hospital.
In the coming days, he will be charged in Georgia as a fugitive from justice.
It is unclear when he will be returned to Massachusetts for arraignment on the indictments in Fall River Superior Court.
