FALL RIVER (WBSM) — The victim in a shooting that took place earlier today in Fall River has died and authorities are now actively investigating the incident as a homicide.

According to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, the victim has been identified as Jovanni Perez, 18, of Fall River and East Weymouth.

Fall River Police responded to a report of a male gunshot victim at around 12:18 p.m. today in the area of 253 Locust Street.

First responders arrived on the scene and located Perez, who was suffering from “multiple gunshot wounds to his upper extremities,” according to Fall River Police.

Perez was rushed to Charlton Memorial Hospital, where the D.A.’s Office said he was pronounced deceased at 1:41 p.m.

“Although no suspect is in custody at this moment, the investigation is extremely active,” the D.A.’s Office said in a release.

The incident is being investigated by Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the D.A.’s Office, as well as Fall River Police and Homicide Unit prosecutors.

No further information is being provided at this time.
