Part of Fairhaven’s Phoenix Bike Trail Will Be Closed for a Month
FAIRHAVEN (WBSM) — For the next month or so, a portion of Fairhaven’s Phoenix Bike Trail will be inaccessible due to sewer work.
The Fairhaven Department of Public Works posted to its Facebook page that the work would be taking place, while also apologizing for not posting it with advanced notice. The work has already begun, and the portion of the trail in which the work is being done has already been shut down.
The area is behind the Stop & Shop plaza, east of Sconticut Neck Road. There is a detour during the work that goes up and under the power lines, on the grassy area just over the trail, ensuring bicyclists, walkers, joggers and anyone else using the trail can continue on with their trek.
The work, described as a “sewer force main rehabilitation project effort,” is expected to last about four weeks.
“With the recently-completed water main project coupled with the current above mentioned sewer force main project as well as the soon to be completed Safe Routes to School project, it is just unusual to have all this work occur in the same area of Town but it needs to be completed before final paving takes place,” the Department of Public Works posted.

“Once this phase is completed another phase of work will be taking place adjacent to Elizabeth Street,” it wrote. “Detour routes and timing will be shared once they are established and approved.”
