FAIRHAVEN — A fatal pedestrian incident late Sunday claimed the life of a 38-year-old Fairhaven man.

According to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, Fairhaven Police received a 911 call from a 24-year-old woman that was driving the car that ran over the victim. A spokesman for the D.A.’s Office says that based on the investigation thus far, it appears the victim may have been intoxicated and was lying in the roadway at the time of the incident.

The incident happened around 11 p.m. on Sunday night while it was raining. The driver and her passenger,  a 21-year-old female, were on their way home from work. They both got out of the car and rendered aid to the victim. He was rushed to St. Luke’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead about a half-hour later.

The victim has been identified as 38-year-old Carlos Cordeiro of Fairhaven.

The incident remains under investigation, but the D.A.’s spokesman said criminal charges are not likely.
