KG Urban's announcement that they were withdrawing their application for a Region C Casino license so they could build a casino at the former Cannon Street Power Station, left many wondering what the future would be for that site.

With that in mind, a group of legislators sent a letter to the Department of Environmental Protection saying pollution at the site posed a danger to the surrounding area, especially the harbor, and that more needs to be done by Eversource.

However, Eversource spokesman Mike Durand spoke with WBSM's Brian Thomas on Tuesday and said that is simply not the case.

"Neither we, nor the Department of Environmental Protection feel that way," said Durand "In fact DEP confirmed with us after receiving the letter that not only is the site where it needs to be environmentally for what we're using it for, but that there are no violations."

Durand says that, in fact, the company has more than met their obligations.

"The work we did back in 2012...what they consider to be waterside work, that needed to be done, in that case we remediated an entire boat float," said Durand "and the one that there was an environmental award for...and that was the last work that needed to be done."

Durand also says Eversource is more than willing to meet with any interested party regarding other potential uses for the site.

The facility is being put to good use, according to Durand, but he says they are always willing to meet with those who wish to propose alternative uses for the site.

"For the forseeable future our plan is to continue to operate our service center here," said Durand "but that doesn't mean we won't be willing to speak with Mayor Mitchell or whomever wants to talk to us about it because we've been open for decades to talking to people and we still are."
