BUZZARDS BAY— Massachusetts Environmental Police conducted patrols in the Buzzards Bay area this past weekend on both June 1 and June 2 via both land and water. Police say fishing activity was extremely heavy due to the amount of black sea bass being caught in the area. Officers say they issued more than $3,000 worth if citations regarding various fishing and boating safety violations.

This included a citation written for a citizen who was actively taking white perch in excess on the Taunton River. Following an investigation, police say that the individual was in possession of 68 white perch, which is 43 over the legal limit.

As a result, citations for this individual were issued for possession over the limit and failure to display catch. Police say the fish were not fit for human consumption due to improper storage and were subsequently destroyed as a result.
