Several environmental groups are pushing for clean energy uses at what used to be one of the region's dirtiest power plants.

The Brayton Point Power Station in Somerset is scheduled to shut down next year.

A recent study suggests the plant be re-powered with natural gas, but environmental groups like the coalition for Clean Air South Coast argue, there's plenty of natural gas in the region already.

The Coalition's Pauline Rodrigues says environmental groups are hoping the plant can be used for clean energy purposes....like collecting and storing energy from offshore wind projects.

"if they bring that power in to Brayton Point, the network is already there to distribute it. That would be clean and also supply some tax revenue," said Rodrigues.

The Coalition for Clean Air South Coast and several other groups have compiled a list of recommendations for future uses of Brayton Point. They're sending them on to Governor Baker.
