I can't imagine what it must have felt like on December 6, 1933, the first day after Prohibition ended.

Tomorrow, most all the rulings and directives we've been living under for more than a year here in Massachusetts will end. That's deserving of a toast.

Some believe that when Prohibition ended, President Roosevelt said, "What America needs now is a drink!" Here, here. I'll gladly raise a glass of flavored seltzer water, with a slice of lime, thanks.

Tomorrow, just head on over to your favorite bar that can now fully reopen without capacity restrictions or a food service requirement. You remember the food service requirement that was forced down the throats of thousands of small businesses? That was a pile of bologna.

Like our birthday or anniversary, May 29, 2021, should be added to the list of important dates, because it is our new starting over day. It will feel great walking into a full Red Sox game, with all the noise we've missed, or the Bruins at TD Garden, and see all the nosebleed seats are taken. And just in time for Memorial Day, parades and festivals will restart for as many people can crowd the streets.

I don't know how the fitness clubs and gyms survived, but at least now you can use their sauna, hot tub or steam room. Did you observe the 90-minute rule? Talk about some idiotic ideas inflicted on mom-and-pop businesses and on us. Celeste and I never obeyed the 90-minute eat-and-run regulation, or the one that limited your dinner party to six, that also belongs in that pile of bologna.

Just think, tomorrow you'll be allowed to go and jump in a ball pit, with all those thousands of colorful plastic orbs. I'll stick with the idea of toasting the lifting of all COVID restrictions, by suggesting that what Massachusetts needs now is a drink of your choice. Cheers!
