Dismantling of Somerset’s Brayton Point Cooling Towers Underway [PHOTOS]
The view from atop the Braga Bridge is about to get a little more scenic, as the dismantling of the Brayton Point towers in Somerset has begun.
For more than 50 years, the station generated electricity for the SouthCoast and beyond. It shut down in June of 2017, the last coal-fired power plant in Massachusetts.
Now, Atlantic Coast Dismantling, LLC has started the huge task of dismantling Brayton Point’s twin 500-foot cement cooling towers.
Atlantic Coast Dismantling, LLC says their company will continue working on taking down the towers until they are imploded by another company sometime in November.
After that, the skyline coming over the Braga Bridge and looking toward Mt. Hope Bay will look markedly different.
