Kathleen Dawson has resigned her position as Headmaster at New Bedford High School, and the School Department announced Friday that Bernadette Coelho, the acting Headmaster will continue in that role for the rest of the school year. No reason was given for the resignation.

School officials say Dawson requested a leave of absence on January 9th, and Coelho took over as acting Headmaster at that time.

Supt. Dr. Pia Durkin said in a statement, New Bedford High School can't miss a beat, and Ms. Coelho has the confidence of the school staff to continue as the acting Headmaster.

Coelho has worked in the School Department for the past nine years, spending most of her time working at New Bedford High.
