UPDATE: Dartmouth police say that the man has been identified, and he has returned the signs to the park.

DARTMOUTH — Police and parks officials in Dartmouth are looking for a man suspected of stealing signs from a town park who was caught on video wearing unique trousers.

The Dartmouth Parks and Recreation Department posted the surveillance video images to its official Facebook page on Monday night asking for help from the public identifying the man.

In its post, the department stated that at around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, the man "with the fancy pants" took some signs from Dartmouth's Apponagansett Park.

"Needless to say we would like them back," the post continues, before asking anyone who knows the man to contact parks officials or Dartmouth police.

It is not clear which signs, or how many, the man took from the park, which is located near the town's Jones Beach and iconic Bucket ice cream stand.

As seen in the images taken from surveillance footage, the pants in question appear to be black trousers with streaks of orange down the outer right leg and blocks of other colors down the left leg.

The man also appears to be sporting a distinctive hairstyle.

Police in Dartmouth also posted a request for help from residents in identifying the man, whom they called a "clown."

Anyone with information on the man is asked to contact the Dartmouth police department or Det. Kyle Costa at 508-910-1755.
