Dartmouth — A Dartmouth Police officer was injured by an alleged intoxicated operator following a crash on Route 6 early Sunday morning.

Police say at approximately 1:54 a.m., Dartmouth Police Officer Manny Demelo was investigating a crash on Route 6 near Connecticut Avenue, and while sitting in his cruiser, was struck by a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado operated by David Costa, 56, of New Bedford.

Officer Demelo was transported to St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford, where he was treated for minor injuries.

Costa was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of liquor and negligent operation.
