Dartmouth Man Charged With Attempted New Bedford Robbery

A 23 year old Dartmouth man is being charged with an attempted robbery at the Royal Food and Deli in New Bedford Tuesday night.

The suspect, 23 year old Patrick Shea of Old Westport Road, surrendered to police at the Rockdale Avenue headquarters on Wednesday afternoon.  He was charged with armed assault with intent to rob.

Det. Captain Steve Vicente says the robber was armed with a knife when he demanded money from the deli clerk.   The clerk refused to hand over anything and the suspect fled the store.

The knife was found near the Summer Street store.   Shea is scheduled to appear in New Bedford District Court.
