Cumberland, RI Police Investigate Fatal Double Shooting

CUMBERLAND, RI — Cumberland police are investigating a double shooting in which two people died on Wednesday morning.

Police said in a release that at around 6:40 a.m. Wednesday, officers were dispatched to 28 Birchwood Dr. for a report of two adults with gunshot wounds.

They were both pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, a preliminary investigation has found that this is an isolated incident, and there is no danger to the community.

Police said the two victims knew each other, and all other residents of the home were found to be unharmed inside.

Cumberland Police Chief Matthew Benson stated in the release that the department "offers its thoughts and prayers to the family, friends and loved ones of those who were affected by this tragedy."

The investigation is ongoing.

No further details are being released at this time.
