Cumberland Police: Fatal Double Shooting Was Domestic Homicide
CUMBERLAND, RI — Cumberland police have announced the results of an investigation into a fatal double shooting last month that killed a married couple identified as Courtney and Eric Huard.
According to a release from Cumberland Police Chief Matthew Benson, the investigation found that the June 22 shooting was a domestic homicide.
Benson stated that 51-year-old Eric Huard shot and killed his wife, 42-year-old Courtney Huard, before turning the gun on himself.
The couple lived together in their Birchwood Drive home with their three children, who were found uninjured inside the house after the shooting at around 6:40 a.m. on June 22.
The investigation was conducted with "diligent efforts" from Cumberland Police detectives along with Rhode Island State Police, Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha's office, and the State Medical Examiner's office, according to Benson.
“We are reminded that there are three children who lost their parents, and two families that are devastated by the loss of their loved ones," Benson said. "Our thoughts continue to be with them at this time.”
