In a final push before election day, the two candidates for Ward Four City Council squared off in a debate Thursday on "The Taylor Cormier Show."

Former Ward Four Councillor Joseph "Jo Jo" Fortes criticized incumbent Dana Rebeiro for granting waivers of residency to numerous city workers, something Fortes says he's never supported and never will. "Especially these administrative positions that we have that are paying high salaries, $80,000 or $70,000, whatever it is. New Bedford residents will come first," said Fortes.

Rebeiro defended her role in economic development, pointing out the Women and Minority Collective Group she established, and inviting Governor Charlie Baker to New Bedford to learn more about the roles women and minorities play in the community. "I reached across party lines to Charlie Baker, who I campaigned very rigorously against. But, as soon as he won, I extended a hand to him, gave him a tour and he's been very generous with resources for the Collective," said Rebeiro.

The election is Tuesday, November 3.
