Associated Press - Major League Baseball lost one of its own earlier this month.

Jerry Dior passed away on May 10th at the age of 82 at his house in Edison, New Jersey according to multiple outlets.

Dior, who passed away after a battle with cancer, is most recognized for designing the MLB logo.

The Brooklyn native created the mark back in 1968 and it was adopted a year later to honor professional baseball.

MLB recognized Dior in 2009 by holding  pregame ceremonies at both New York stadium's.

It took MLB 40 years to give him official credit.  His death was not made public until this week.
