A 16-year-old suspect is in custody after police say he shot another teenager near a Taunton park and prompted a lockdown at a nearby Catholic high school.

Police say the suspect shot a 17-year-old boy least three times after the two got into a fight Tuesday afternoon.

The injured teen was airlifted to a hospital and is expected to survive.

The victim had been walking with his girlfriend when they were approached by the suspect.

The suspect has been charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, armed robbery and carrying a gun without a firearms identification card.

He is being held on $500,000 bail pending arraignment.

Chief Edward Walsh says the teens know each other.

No names were released. Coyle and Cassidy High School was locked down.
